It can be attached to the Fine, Medium, and 1.0mm Italic nibs to increase their ink-holding capacity, allowing for longer writing or drawing with a single dip. (The 2.0mm and Calligraphy nibs come with built-in ink reservoirs and do not require this part.) You can still switch inks easily by rinsing both the nib and the reservoir gently in water.
